“Dedicated to the Preservation of Our Warrior Heritage”

The first Combat Control Team was activated at Donaldson AFB, SC on January 15, 1953. Since then, they have had a long and proud tradition—having served in every major conflict since their formation. Combat Control Teams deploy into an objective area by sea, air or overland; rapidly establish and control expeditionary airfields, landing zones or other assault zones in support of the Combatant Commander’s war plan. Their mission includes air traffic control, command and control, forward air control of US military, allied military and civil aircraft.

Combat Control Teams have operated around the world, since their first deployment to Lebanon in 1958; Congo in 1962; China/India in 1963; Dominican Republic in 1965; Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia from 1963 to 1975, Desert One in 1980; Grenada in 1983; Panama in 1989; and most recently in Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom. Additionally, CCT has participated in operations that remain classified.

Heritage Hall

Heritage Mission: Inspire Combat Control School students with a comprehensive display of unique artifacts that accurately portray the history and traditions of the United States Air Force Combat Control School graduates. Search for, identify, acquire, preserve, refurbish and display artifacts of historical significance.

Heritage Exhibits: Heritage Hall will be a walk-through exhibit of historically significant events that defined and molded the US Air Force Combat Control Team into a world-class fighting force. Artifacts, mannequins and photographs are organized and grouped to depict the Combat Control mission, capabilities and accomplishments, as they were shaped by tests of combat.

Heritage Management: The Heritage Hall staff will identify and obtain artifacts to support the Heritage Hall mission and display plan. Air Force Instruction (AFI) 84-103 will govern property control and accountability. The Combat Control School Association (CCSA) Board of Directors will provide management oversight and financial control.

Combat Control School Association Operation

CCSA Authority: The CCSA was granted authority to operate as a private organization by 43SVS/SVF Pope AFB, NC (9 Sep 2004 letter) and is governed by Air Force Instruction (AFI) 34-223.

Restructuring:The Combat Control School Association (CCSA) is being restructured. The restructuring will add a historical foundation under IRS 501(C) 3 and will change the CCSA membership program. It is planned to have the restructuring completed this year with the following changes. Note to all readers; other changes mybe made and all will be updated via the Web Site.

A: The CCSA will remain a private organization on Pope AFB to serve as a link between the Combat Control School and the foundation. Membership of the CCSA will be limited to the current staff members at the school and the President of the CCSA will remain the Commandant of the School.

B: The historical foundation will be a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization with its own funds, managed by its own trustees and directors. Its purpose will be limited to the historical support of the CCSA and the Combat Control School. It will be a public organization that will also educate, support historical activities with sister services that CCT has supported, and, will serve the common good of the US Air Force. Also, as a historical foundation it may be eligible for grants and support from other government agencies or organizations. Plans call for trustees and directors to come from the CCA, military retired members, local, state, and, national level members of government.
